Dr Ma Hok-Cheung

Chief Executive Officer of Caritas Hospital
 

Dr. MA is the Hospital Chief Executive of Caritas Medical Centre (CMC), Hospital Authority.

After graduation from the Medical School of University of Hong Kong in 1979, Dr Ma joined the United Christian Hospital (UCH) in July 1980 and was promoted to consultant physician in December 1989. He worked for the then newly established Hospital Authority as an understudy member at the Head Office in the second half of 1991.  In January 1992 he returned to his clinical post in UCH. Between June 1992 and May 1994, he served as the General Manager (Clinical Services) of UCH.  In June 1994 he returned to the clinical field and became the Chief of Service (COS) of the Department of Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.  He also took up the role of Clinical Coordinator of UCH on top of his COS responsibilities for a couple of years. In January 1996 he was appointed as the Hospital Chief Executive of Ruttonjee Hospital (RH). In April 1998, he was appointed as HCE of Ruttonjee & Tang Shiu Kin Hospitals after the management integration of the two hospitals.  He also took up the post of HCE of the Chung Hom Kok Cheshire Home in August 2006.  In July 2008 as part of the HCE rotation program of Hospital Authority, he was appointed as HCE of CMC until now.  In addition to this role, he also serves as the Service Director(Human Resources) and Cluster Clinical Stream Coordinator(Medical) of the Kowloon West Cluster.

Besides his official capacity, Dr. MA also served as the Chairman of the UCH Doctors' Association in the late 80's.  He obtained his Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota (U of M) in 1995.  Since then and for a few years he served as one of the Preceptors the U of M Independent Study Programme (ISP) for the Hong Kong students.  He was the Chairman of the Hong Kong Society of Health Service Executives between 2003 and 2005 and the founding President of the Hong Kong College of Health Service Executives (HKCHSE) from 2005 to 2008.  He has been re-elected as the President of the HKCHSE in 2010. He is presently the Programme Director of the Dual Fellowship programme of the HKCHSE.  He is also an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor of the Department of Community Medicine, University of Hong Kong.  Recently he is appointed by the Hong Kong College of Community Medicine (HKCCM) as Censor of the Administrative Medicine Subspecialty Board as well as serving as member of the Education Committee, CME Subcommittee and Training Centre Accreditation Subcommittee of HKCCM.
