Dr. David Xu is a Director in McKinsey & Company, Shanghai office. He has over 15 years of consulting and industry experience abroad and in China. In McKinsey, Dr. Xu leads the Greater China power and energy practice. Dr. Xu is chief editor of the Chinese edition of the McKinsey Quarterly.
Over many years Dr. Xu has helped many large energy and electricity companies home and abroad on consultancy studies, covering a series of topics such as group strategy planning, business strategy development, M&A, asset restructuring, organization optimization, management and business process redesign, operation improvement and lean manufacturing. Dr. Xu also helps government organs on policy development. Dr. Xu devotes himself to developing new knowledge and management methodology by leading many internal studies in energy and electricity sector. He also shares McKinsey’s unique insight and research findings by attending various kinds of business forum, contributing articles in influential magazines such as Harvard Business Review and having interview from leading domestic media.
Dr. Xu received his M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, where he graduated with high distinction. In addition, he earned a Ph.D. in Vision Science/Optics from the State University of New York. He also holds a B.S. in microelectronics from Fudan University.
